Social Media AI Tracker Report: July 2026

Track how AI is impacting social media content published in July 2026 across LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit.

AI-generated content has become pervasive on social media. While many users have noticed a change in their online experience since the public release of ChatGPT in late 2022, there has yet to be a comprehensive analysis of its full impact on social media platforms, or a way to track those changes over time.

That is why Originality.ai is proud to offer its inaugural Social Media AI Tracker Report, a monthly breakdown that tracks the volume of AI-generated content on social platforms with side-by-side comparisons, category breakdowns, and monthly updates.

The aim of this project is to shine a light on how our online experience is changing in the AI era. It also seeks to offer insights into where the technology is showing up the most in our feeds.

The Social Media AI Tracker Report will be paired with a broader analysis of AI content on the internet overall in Originality’s monthly Dead Internet Tracker Report (see reports: July and August).

Between the two reports, Originality.ai analyzed a total of more than 145 million words across 332,000 posts, articles, and search results, using its proprietary software to determine the proportion of sampled content that was likely AI-generated.

Overall, the results demonstrate how probable AI-generated content has come to dominate most social media platforms in recent years, and how the trend line continues its sharp upward trajectory.

Cross-Platform Comparison of Likely AI Posts

The data below represents how much each platform’s long-form written content is more likely than not at least 15% AI-generated.

  • LinkedIn: 76% of sampled posts Likely AI
  • Facebook: 65% of sampled posts Likely AI
  • X (formerly Twitter): 63% of sampled posts Likely AI
  • Reddit: 29% of sampled posts Likely AI

Note: Due to a one-month delay in data collection. Reddit’s figures represent June 2026 data in contrast to LinkedIn, Facebook, and X, which provide results for July 2026.

4 Snapshots of Likely AI Content Across Social Media Platforms, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and Reddit

LinkedIn

LinkedIn – 75.6% Likely AI

Originality.ai analyzed 123 randomly selected long-form English-language LinkedIn posts published in July of 2026. The analysis determined that 93, or 75.6%, were Likely AI.

LinkedIn Likely AI Posts 2025 vs. 2026

Originality.ai also tracked the changes to the platform over time, revealing that AI-generated content has sharply increased in recent years. For example, just 67.6% of posts published in July of 2025 were likely AI-generated, compared with 73.6% of posts published in the first seven months of 2026, and 75.6% of those published in July of 2026.

LinkedIn Likely AI Posts 2020- 2026

LinkedIn began seeing a spike in AI-generated content in early 2023, the first full year that AI tools like ChatGPT were widely available to the public, and its pervasiveness on the platform has only grown since.

LinkedIn Likely AI Posts 2020-2026

There was another spike after Originality.ai updated its collection method to incorporate a newer public-search collection starting in November of 2024. Since then, the proportion of content on the platform that is likely at least 15% AI-generated has nearly doubled.

LinkedIn Likely AI Post Word-Length Comparison

LinkedIn Word-Length Comparison 2025 vs. 2026

The utilization of AI increases alongside word length, before a notable drop-off in likely AI-written posts of 400 words or longer. However, long-form content appears to be catching up, having seen the biggest spike between 2025 and 2026, at nearly 13%.

AI use was also up across all content categories in 2026, except for leadership posts, which saw a roughly 1% reduction. The biggest jump was among data and analytics posts, which overtook leadership as the most likely AI-generated content category on LinkedIn in 2026, following a year-over-year increase of nearly 8%.

Climate-related posts, meanwhile, stand out for having a significantly lower proportion of AI-generated content, at just 50% — more than 20% less than the next-lowest ranking category, Careers.

Facebook

Facebook – 65% Likely AI

Originality.ai analyzed 195 randomly selected long-form English-language Facebook posts published in July of 2026. The analysis determined that 126, or 64.6%, were likely at least 15% AI-generated.

Facebook Likely AI Posts 2020- 2026

AI-generated content on Facebook has seen significant growth since 2023, but especially in the last year. In fact, every month in 2026 saw more likely-AI generated content published on the platform than the same month in 2025, according to Originality.ai’s analysis of more than 10,651 Facebook posts dating back to June of 2020.

Facebook Likely AI Post Word-Length Comparison

Likely AI Posts by Facebook Post Length

Posts with 300 words or more saw less AI use in 2025 than the first seven months of 2026.

Shorter posts, meanwhile, experienced an opposite trend.

Shorter Facebook posts were much more likely to be flagged as likely AI-generated than longer ones, with the proportion of likely AI content growing 10% among posts of 100 to 199 words and roughly 15% among posts in the 200-to-299-word range.

Facebook Posts: Category Comparison

Likely by Facebook Page Category

A sampling of posts on public Facebook pages by Originality.ai revealed some discrepancies across categories. Non-profits and civic-related Facebook pages saw a meaningful jump in AI-generated content between the end of last year and the first half of 2026, increasing by nearly 18%.

The health, public figures, education and creators, and higher education categories also saw meaningful increases in AI-generated content in 2026.

Culture, museums, and libraries, and regional and community pages, meanwhile, saw modest declines in likely AI content.

X (formerly Twitter)

X — 63% Likely AI

Originality.ai analyzed 201 randomly selected English-language X posts published in July of 2026 with at least 100 words. The analysis determined that 127, or 63.2%, were likely at least 15% AI-generated.

X Likely AI Posts 2020- 2026

Likely AI Content on X 2020-2026

The July findings are consistent with the overall trend for 2026. When Originality analyzed 1,143 X posts from January to July of this year, 718 — or 62.8% — were determined to be Likely AI, up from 55.1% in 2025.

Likely AI-generated content on X has increased sharply since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2023, especially between 2024 and mid-2025, though it has levelled off in recent months.

X Likely AI Post Word-Length Comparison

Likely AI Analysis by X Post Length

There has been a notable increase in likely AI-generated posts under 200 words this year, especially among those in the 100-to-149-word range, which saw an 11% jump in the first half of 2026 as compared to 2025. However, likely AI use in X posts over 200 words only increased by 3.3% over that same period.

X Likely AI Posts: Category Comparison

Likely AI by X (formerly Twitter) Category

Every X content category analyzed by Originality.ai has seen an increase in likely-AI generated content since the start of this year, with an especially notable 22.4% jump in the health and wellness category. Finance and crypto-related posts, meanwhile, are the biggest hotbeds for likely AI-generated content on X, followed by technology, AI, and Science, with both hovering around the 80% range.

Reddit

Reddit — 29% Likely AI

Originality.ai analyzed 559 randomly selected English-language Reddit posts of at least 100 words published in June of 2026. The analysis determined that 162, or 29%, were likely to be at least 15% AI-generated.

Reddit Likely AI Posts 2020- 2026

While Reddit stands out for having significantly less AI-generated content than other text-based platforms, it too has seen a notable increase. According to Originality.ai’s analysis of 6,526 posts published to Reddit in 2025, just 21.5% were flagged as likely AI, compared with 27% in the first half of 2026, and 29% in June.

Probable AI use also appears to be closely correlated with post length. Posts of under 200 words, for example, were roughly half as likely to be AI-generated as those with 800 or more. Posts of all lengths, however, saw more likely AI-generated content in the first half of 2026 than in 2025.

Methodology

To ensure accuracy, only posts that contain at least 100 words are included in the analysis. Since Originality.ai is built to analyse written content, the report focuses on those platforms that are primarily text-based and only includes an analysis of their written content (not images, videos, or audio).

A post is deemed Likely AI if the tracker is more confident than not (50% confidence or higher) that at least 15% was written by AI.

It is also worth noting that the tracker does not necessarily represent the proportion of AI-generated content a given user will see while browsing their feeds or timelines, as each user experience differs based on the platform’s algorithms and filters. That means some users are served more AI-generated content than others, even on the same platform.
