Editpad is a suite of online tools including an AI text humanizer, a paraphrasing tool, a story generator and a plagiarism checker, among others.
It offers a simple, straightforward interface that allows users to optionally upload their file directly into the system or copy and paste the text.
For the purpose of this review, we tested Editpad’s Plagiarism Checker against the Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker using tests with content from published blog posts as well as patchwork plagiarism samples.
See the results of our detailed tests below.
The results below show how both the Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker and Editpad plagiarism checkers compared when tested against direct (verbatim) plagiarism, also known as copy and paste plagiarism.
They also show the results of how both plagiarism detectors fared when tested with patchwork plagiarism, which is much harder to detect because it pulls from multiple sources.
Editpad is a suite of writing tools designed to help students and professionals alike improve their writing and avoid plagiarism.
Editpad’s plagiarism checker is free to use and supports twenty different languages. The plagiarism checking process displays a detailed report at the end of each check, including the percentage of plagiarism, the source(s), and the original text.
Editpad is used by students and professionals alike who are looking to write or edit their text. It includes a variety of tools in the form of APIs that users can interact with, including font generators, grammar checkers, article rewriters, and more.
The Editpad plagiarism checker is free to use for texts of 1,000 words.
A premium version of Editpad is also available (starting at $9/week with additional tiers at $19/month and $159/year).
Depending on the selected tier, premium Editpad plans allow for plagiarism checks on more pages (ranging from 25 to 1000 pages).
For this test, we focused solely on the Editpad plagiarism detector.
We divided the test into two parts:
Step 1: First, we took content samples from two blogs featured on the Originality.ai blog.
Step 2: Next, we pasted the blog content directly into the Originality.ai plagiarism checker and into Editpad’s plagiarism checker and then ran each tool while noting the plagiarism percentage from each tool.
We chose two text examples directly from the Originality.ai blog:
Step 3: For the second part of the test, we chose examples of patchwork plagiarism.
Patchwork plagiarism is an example of plagiarism that pulls from multiple sources. This makes it more difficult for even modern, advanced plagiarism checkers to spot.
Step 4: We then ran both samples through Editpad and the Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker to compare results. Our findings are documented below:
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 100% Match
Editpad Plagiarism Checker: 100% plagiarized
Interestingly, in this test, Editpad picked up on both the blog post published on Originality.ai and a different post that quoted our blog article.
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker 100% Match
Editpad Plagiarism Checker: 100% plagiarized
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 77% Match
Editpad Plagiarism Checker: 52.11% plagiarized
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 62% Match
Editpad Plagiarism Checker: 22.73% plagiarized
Editpad did well against the direct copy-and-paste plagiarism examples, scoring 100%, alongside the Originality.ai plagiarism detector.
However, Editpad was unable to accurately determine examples of patchwork plagiarism, scoring only 52% and 22% compared to Originality.ai’s 77% and 62%, respectively.
We recommend that if you’re planning to use Editpad as a comprehensive plagiarism checker, that you consider testing it independently or looking into alternatives, which are more capable of handling advanced plagiarism, such as copying and pasting from multiple sources.
As you can note from the test results shown above, Originality.ai’s Plagiarism Detector consistently outperformed Editpad when it came to identifying the more advanced, difficult-to-detect forms of plagiarism.
Beyond plagiarism detection, Originality.ai also allows users to check for AI writing, check the readability of their content, check factual accuracy, and improve SEO content optimization.
Originality.ai stands out as a best-in-class plagiarism detector and content marketing tool. Originality.ai is also patented! Read more in our guide, Originality.ai Patented Breakthrough Technology.
Although Editpad’s plagiarism detector was easy to use by way of either uploading a document or pasting in the text directly, its results were lacklustre in detecting patchwork plagiarism.
The tool itself had a strong start, but its capabilities were limited when it came to patchwork samples.
For this reason, we recommend that if you’re looking for a powerful, advanced plagiarism detector, try the Originality.ai plagiarism checker.
