Skandy is a hybrid plagiarism checker and AI detector combined into a single platform.
Skandy’s plagiarism tool offers a free plagiarism check for up to 2000 characters. That means that if you’re converting characters to words it’s approximately 325 words.
When the scan is complete, it provides a report of findings including the percentage of plagiarism and potential AI use.
For the purpose of this review, we focused on the Skandy plagiarism checker and put it to the test against Originality.ai’s plagiarism detector.
See the results of our detailed tests below.
The results of this review are centred around how Skandy’s plagiarism checker performed in comparison with the Originality.ai plagiarism checker across four different tests. See the results of the test and our recommendations below.
Skandy is an online plagiarism and AI detector service that scans up to 2,000 characters (around 325 words) for free.
Users can upload their content in a variety of formats, including plain text, and Skandy will generate a report in just a few minutes outlining the results, including the percentages of plagiarism.
Skandy is designed for academic use as well as for business, marketing, and search engine professionals. People choose Skandy because of its ease of use and its ability to generate reports which can then be shared with colleagues or clients.
While Skandy does offer a free, limited version of the plagiarism checker. It also provides several pricing tiers for users to choose from. Check out the chart below for a brief overview:
For this test, we focused solely on the Skandy plagiarism detector
We divided the test into two parts:
Step 1: First, we took two blog posts from the Originality.ai blog.
Step 2: Next, we pasted the blog content directly into the Originality.ai plagiarism checker and into Skandy’s plagiarism checker and then ran each respective tool, documenting the results.
We chose two text examples directly from the Originality.ai blog:
Step 3: For the second part of the test, we chose examples of patchwork plagiarism.
Step 4: We then ran both samples through Skandy and the Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker to compare results.
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 100% Match
Skandy Plagiarism Checker: 87% plagiarized
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker 100% Match
Skandy Plagiarism Checker: 14% plagiarized
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 65% Match
Skandy Plagiarism Checker: 41% plagiarized
Originality.ai Plagiarism Checker: 89% Match
Skandy Plagiarism Checker: 0% plagiarized
Skandy’s results were inconsistent in detecting both copy-and-paste plagiarism and patchwork plagiarism.
For the first test with copy-and-paste plagiarism, Skandy identified an 87% possibility of plagiarism. However, for the second test with copy-and-paste plagiarism, the results dropped dramatically with only 14% potential plagiarism detected.
A similar inconsistency was found with testing Skandy with patchwork plagiarism samples. It was able to detect the first example with moderate results (41% possibility). However, it failed to detect the patchwork plagiarism in the second example, citing the content as 100% unique.
For this reason, if you are planning to use the Skandy plagiarism checker, we recommend conducting your own independent tests or researching other alternatives.
Given these limitations, more tests will need to be done in order to determine the reliability and accuracy of the Skandy plagiarism detector.
We primarily focused on the plagiarism detection capabilities of Skandy in this review.
However, the Skandy plagiarism checker identified a 20% probability of AI in our first published blog post and a 30% probability of AI in our second blog post — even though they were written by a human for the Originality.ai blog.
So, we ran both of our human-written blogs through our best-in-class AI Checker. Both results highlighted their originality, with 100% confidence they were Likely Original.
Compared to the Skandy plagiarism detector, the Originality.ai plagiarism checker was able to consistently identify both copy-and-paste plagiarism and patchwork plagiarism with a high degree of accuracy and reliability.
Content professionals, marketers and search engine specialists rely on the Originality.ai plagiarism detector to help them maintain authenticity and originality in their content.
Beyond its powerful plagiarism detector, Originality.ai also offers a best-in-class AI detector with exceptional accuracy, as well as a Content Optimizer, Readability Checker, and Fact Checker, providing content marketers and other professionals with a full suite of tools designed to help editorial teams publish with confidence.
Because Skandy was unable to consistently and accurately uncover instances of both direct plagiarism and patchwork plagiarism, it may be worth considering an alternative that offers more consistent and stable results when checking for different types of plagiarism.
Originality.ai, on the other hand, features the most accurate plagiarism detector that’s capable of uncovering direct and patchwork plagiarism with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
