However, despite many AI content detectors claiming to help in this regard, some are better than others.
In this article, we will take a deeper look at Conch AI’s detector tool, and see whether or not it is a viable tool.
First off, let’s take a little look at the Conch AI content detector in a little more detail. Conch AI describes itself as an all-in-one AI solution, offering generative AI, AI paraphrasing, and AI content detection as some of its many services.
Much like other AI content platforms we have reviewed (see a complete list of our AI detector reviews), this tool uses LLM models, along with a couple of prompting tweaks in the back end.
As part of Conch’s service, it also allows users to use the AI content detector for free, which aims to detect any AI-generated content.
Considering that AI usage can result in Google penalties, having access to a free tool that correctly identifies AI is intriguing for both writers and the reviewers of that content, such as editors or web publishers.
However, Conch AI also offers generative AI solutions, including features for ‘humanizing’ AI content and bypassing AI detection. So, if it is marketed as a tool to bypass AI detection, it raises the question, how effective is its AI detector? We tested it to find out.
We created a quick yet thorough test to see whether or not you can trust Conch AI’s free AI detector.
For this test, we incorporated several forms of content to study how the tool performs.
Step 1: We opted to create content with ChatGPT, as it’s one of the most popular AI writer tools.
Step 2: For the content that ChatGPT produces, we then copied in and pasted it into Conch’s AI detector and the Originality.ai AI Checker to see how the results match up.
The three forms of content we tested were:
Prompt: "Write a comprehensive blog post exploring the concept of politics in young people. Discuss why young people’s engagement in politics is important in shaping future societal changes. Analyze the different ways youth are involved in politics today, including activism, voting, social media, and grassroots movements. Highlight key issues that resonate with young people, such as climate change, social justice, and economic inequality. Provide insights into the challenges they face in participating in political processes, including voter suppression, lack of education, or political apathy. Conclude by suggesting ways to increase political engagement among young people and the potential impact of their increased participation on future policies and leadership."

From the results of our test, the Conch AI detector was unable to confidently identify all of the samples of AI text.
For the eBook, Conch AI’s tool noted it was human-generated (63%) despite it coming directly from ChatGPT.
And even for Conch’s most accurate result on the blog post, it still only believed 64% of the content was generated, even though 100% of it was straight from ChatGPT.
When compared to the Originality.ai AI Checker, the contrast in capabilities is clear. For each ChatGPT-generated sample, Originality.ai identified it as Likely AI with 100% Confidence.

When it comes to making AI-generated content undetectable, it can be tempting to rely on AI ‘humanizer’ tools, which claim to make your content more human. However, these tools often don’t work or make writing incomprehensible. The best way to make AI content undetectable is by using the tools sparingly. Instead, focus on human insight and well-written, high-quality content.
Ultimately, the ethics of AI is based entirely on the situation. In some instances, generative AI is encouraged. However, in other instances, it could be against the rules. To avoid confusion it’s best to draft AI use guidelines and discuss them right from the start of a project.
No, that’s one of the benefits, only fill out the areas which you think will be relevant to the prompts you require.
When making the tool we had to make each prompt as general as possible to be able to include every kind of input. Not to worry though ChatGPT is smart and will still understand the prompt.
Originality.ai did a fantastic job on all three prompts, precisely detecting them as AI-written. Additionally, after I checked with actual human-written textual content, it did determine it as 100% human-generated, which is important.
