Type.ai is an online writing assistant and editing tool designed for writers who want to maintain editorial input in the writing process but still want to leverage all the functionality of AI. One of the tools it offers to help in this regard is a free paragraph rewriter that’s powered by AI.
We decided to test the Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter and see if ChatGPT-generated text that was rewritten by Type.ai could still be detected by popular AI detectors, including Originality.ai, ZeroGPT, and Writer.
See the full results of our test, including screenshots below.

The Type.ai paragraph rewriter is an AI rewriter that rewrites paragraphs.
After inputting copy, Type.ai gives you three variations of your text (shown in the screenshot below), which you can copy into its editor (or your preferred editing program) and then revise or rearrange the way you see fit.

You can use the tool for free without needing to register; however, to use all of Type.ai’s features, you’ll need to sign up.
Writers may use an AI tool to help them draft potential angles or concepts, or they may be looking for alternatives to copy they have written.
Tools like Type.ai exist to help provide these alternative angles, and in the case of rewriting AI-generated text, the aim is often to help avoid the cold, robotic-sounding text generated by many LLMs like ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, and others.
Essentially, Type.ai aims to give writers the ability to add more flair to writing.
The Type.ai paragraph rewriter is free to use and does not require you to register or log in. However, if you want to use other Type.ai tools on the platform, you’ll need to sign up.
The test was designed to see if three popular AI detectors, including the Originality.ai AI content detector, Writer, and ZeroGPT, could detect both AI-generated text and AI text rewritten by the Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter.
Step 1: First, we generated a paragraph of text on the topic of copywriting in content marketing in ChatGPT. This was done to make sure that all tools would have a baseline of AI-generated text to identify, along with rewritten text.
Step 2: We then ran the AI-generated text through Originality.ai, ZeroGPT, and Writer AI to get a base score.
Step 3: We pasted the same AI-generated text into the Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter and had the platform “rewrite” it (we chose one of the three samples Type.ai generated).
Step 4: We then pasted the rewritten AI text into ZeroGPT, Writer AI, and Originality.ai to see if they could successfully detect the rewritten version of the text as having been AI-generated or not.
Original content (AI-generated): 100% Confidence that the text is Likely AI

Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter Version: 100% Confidence that the text is Likely AI

Original content (AI-generated): 100% Human-generated (0% AI-generated)

Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter Version: 100% Human-generated (0% AI-generated)

Original content (AI-generated): 83.87% AI-generated

Type.ai Paragraph Rewriter Version: 50.55% AI-Generated

Originality.ai consistently identified the AI text as Likely AI, both the ChatGPT-generated and Type.ai AI Rewritten text, with 100% Confidence.
ZeroGPT then classified the ChatGPT-generated text as AI-generated (83.87% AI); however, the score dropped for the Type.ai AI rewritten text (50.55% AI).
Writer was unable to detect the ChatGPT-generated text or the rewritten paragraph by Type.ai as AI-generated.
That means if you're looking for consistently high accuracy detecting AI in everything from essays to press releases to blog posts, it’s best to use the Originality.ai AI detector, with 99% accuracy in detecting AI.

You can use Type.ai’s paragraph rewriter to rewrite blog posts and essays. However, schools and assignments often have clear guidelines around AI use, so always check the AI policies for your course and educational institution before using it for essay rewriting.
Use tools like paragraph rewriters to give you alternative ideas for your own paragraphs and for brainstorming ways to improve the text with various angles to consider. If you use AI rewritten text or paragraphs, do so transparently, so everyone is on the same page about the creation process for the content.
Type.ai’s paragraph rewritten text was still detectable with 100% Confidence as Likely AI by the industry-leading Originality.ai AI Checker.

He developed it for teachers after seeing the increased cases of “AI plagiarism.” AI plagiarism refers to the use of an AI tool to create similar content based on existing information without proper attribution.
