Surfer (also known as SurferSEO) is well-known for its search engine optimization tools, but how well does its AI Humanizer work when tested against some of the most popular AI detection tools?
We put Surfer SEO’s AI Humanizer to the test against ZeroGPT, Easemate, and the industry-leading Originality.ai AI detector. See our full results below.
Check out our other Surfer reviews to learn about its platform features: Surfer AI review and SurferSEO alternative and review.

Surfer SEO’s AI humanizer is designed to take up to 500 words of AI-generated text (with the free version) and make them sound and flow in a way that’s more naturally human.
It rewrites pasted AI-text on-the-fly, so you can actually see the system working as it rewrites.
However, in order to unlock up to 50,000 humanized words, you’ll need to sign up for the full version.
Surfer is well-known for its search engine tools, but in recent years, it has expanded to include AI-driven tools as well, such as a content generator, internal link inserter, content optimizer, and more.
As part of this AI suite, it also includes an AI detector and an AI humanizer.
For the purpose of this review, we tested the Surfer SEO AI humanizer with Originality.ai as well as Easemate and ZeroGPT to see if its AI-humanized text could pass detection or if it was still detectable.
The test was designed to see if three popular AI detectors, including the Originality.ai AI content detector, Easemate, and ZeroGPT, could detect both AI-generated text and humanized text generated by the Surfer AI Humanizer tool.
Step 1: First, we generated a sample of text on content marketing for B2C audiences in ChatGPT. This was done to make sure that all tools would have a consistent baseline to draw upon in determining whether or not something was AI-generated.
Step 2: We then ran the AI-generated text through Originality.ai, ZeroGPT, and Easemate AI to get a base score.
Step 3: We pasted the same AI-generated text into the Surfer AI Humanizer and had the platform “humanize” it. Unlike some other AI humanization tools, Surfer AI Humanizer does not offer a specific tone or style that changes the text output.
Step 4: We then pasted the humanized AI text into ZeroGPT, Easemate, and Originality.ai to see if they could successfully detect the humanized version of the text as having been AI-generated or not.
For a second round of testing, we input the original ChatGPT text into the Surfer humanizer again and tested the second humanized output across the tools.
Original content (AI-generated): 100% Confidence that the text is Likely AI

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (1): 100% Confidence that the text is Likely AI

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (2): 100% Confidence that the text is Likely AI

Original content (AI-generated): 10% AI-generated

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (1): 15% AI-generated

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (2): 10% AI-generated

Original content (AI-generated): 98% AI-generated

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (1): 75% AI-Generated

Surfer AI Humanizer Version (2): 39.8% AI-Generated

As the screenshots demonstrate, only Originality.ai’s AI detector was able to reliably and accurately spot both the AI-generated text and Surfer AI humanized text as being 100% Likely AI.
Interestingly, EaseMate’s AI percentage went up for the first humanized version, at 10% for the original ChatGPT-generated text and then 15% on the Surfer humanized version (1), although for the second Surfer humanized sample (2) it scored 10% AI.
ZeroGPT highlighted the original ChatGPT text as 98% AI, while the first humanized version scored at a 75% AI, and the second humanized version had a 39% AI score.

The Originality.ai AI detector was able to confidently and consistently identify the ChatGPT text as well as both of the humanized text samples from the Surfer humanizer as 100% Likely AI.
Then, Easemate had difficulty identifying both the ChatGPT and humanized text samples as AI-generated (detecting all samples at 15% AI or less).
ZeroGPT scored the default ChatGPT text as 98% AI. However, its AI scores dropped for both humanized samples, noting 75% AI and 39%, respectively, on the first and second samples.
This means that if you’re looking for an AI detector that is robust against humanizers, check out Originality.ai.
In addition to superior AI detection, you also benefit from advanced modern tools to help keep your content even more authentic, including a plagiarism detector, content optimizer, fact checker, and much more.
Learn more about AI detection:
Surfer SEO AI Humanizer is a tool that attempts to humanize AI-generated content by making it sound and flow more in the style that a human would write. However, Originality.ai’s AI detector is robust against humanizers and was still able to spot the text as 100% Likely AI.
The humanizer accepts ~500 words of text, and it converts them into “humanized” words. To unlock a higher word count, upgrading to a paid plan is required. With the free version, you can watch the tool work and get an idea of how it operates.
