Price: Pay per use
Pros: Identifying plagiarism on websites
Another pay-per-use option is Copyscape. While the user interface is outdated, its plagiarism detection is still a popular option for identifying potential plagiarism.
While they don’t highlight a specific AI scan on their homepage, Copyscape notes that AI tools may replicate content already published elsewhere and advertises their premium tool as a way to identify these instances.
In our recent review of Copyscape’s plagiarism detector, Originality.ai outperformed Copyscape in detecting global plagiarism.
A threshold in plagiarism detection refers to the percentage of content similarity at which a text will be flagged as plagiarized.
Note: As Copyscape doesn’t offer an accessible AI scanning tool, we could not test its capability to identify the ChatGPT text sample.

A plagiarism scanning tool is a tool or platform that can scan your content to identify how similar it is to other content that has already been published, such as in previously published content appearing in web search results.
Plagiarism scanners work by comparing the text that you input with websites, articles, or publications to identify any similarities in wording, structure, and phrasing to previously published content.
For each match found, a plagiarism scanning tool will typically highlight it and provide you with a similarity, match, or plagiarism percentage score.
Keep in mind that not all of these tools work in the same way. While some scan academic databases, others specialize in web-search-based plagiarism detection.
