When it comes to AI content detection, there continues to be a debate around whether or not detection software really works.
To champion transparency and accountability, we published an AI Content Detector Accuracy Review discussing the efficacy of AI detection. We’re also conducting a series of reviews of AI detectors to analyze which AI checkers are the most effective.
So, as part of our series, we decided to test Quetext's AI content detector to evaluate its accuracy in AI detection.
Quetext began as a plagiarism detection tool that allowed users to check for academic integrity and offered citation assistance to reduce plagiarism.
However, since the rise of generative AI, Quetext has expanded to create an AI detection tool, which you can either use the free version of (with a 250-word limit) or access through a premium subscription to scan up to 100,000 words per month.
As AI content continues to improve, it has become increasingly difficult for people to differentiate between human-written and AI-generated content.
Having the capability to clearly identify AI text is crucial for making informed decisions about the content you’re publishing or reading.
Example scenarios:
To test whether or not Quetext's AI detection tool worked, we compared it with the Originality Standard 2.0.1 AI detector.
Step 1: For this test, we split it into three different forms of content:
We did this to test Quetext on different forms of content, focusing on the most prominent ones for generative AI.
Step 2: For the test, we created each piece of content in ChatGPT 3.5 and then pasted it into each detector without making any edits (prompts are shared in full below).
Note: We used ChatGPT 3.5 as it remains one of the most popular generative AI tools.
Prompt: "Generate a blog post on the subject of having a well-rounded and healthy diet. please include a short and concise introduction, a bullet list of the key takeaways, and then a fun, well-structured article identifying the benefits of eating a well-rounded diet, including headers, numbered lists, bullet lists, and anything else that would benefit the article content. Please also keep sentences short and sharp for continued reader engagement."
Originality.ai AI Detector — 2.0.1 Standard Score: 100% AI & 0% Human-written
Quetext Score: 98.29%% AI & 1.71% Human-written
Prompt: "Turn this blog post into a promotional email. The content should be short and sharp and suit the email format. It should intrigue the reader about what the blog post is about and entice them to click through and read the full article on our company website. Show a little bit of what they will learn about to make them interested in the content."
Originality.ai AI Detector — 2.0.1 Standard Score: 100% AI & 0% Human-written
Quetext AI Score: 99.78% AI & 0.22% Human-written
Prompt: "Turn all of this content into a highly detailed ebook, which we will start promoting on our website as a lead magnet. Include additional information about sleep, hydration, and other health and well-being elements. Maintain the same writing style, and make sure it is no fewer than 2,500 words."
Originality.ai AI Detector — 2.0.1 Standard Score: 100% AI & 0% Human-written
Quetext AI Score: 99.78% AI & 0.22% Human-written
While Quetext's AI detection tool stops short of stating the content is 100% AI-generated, it performed well in each type of content we tested.
The tool was the least confident with the blog post content, which may be because the prompt asked ChatGPT to make the blog post more dynamic than generic generative AI content, asking it to include bullet and number lists.

Quetext AI allows you to input as many as 250 words as part of the free version. If you want to run an AI detection test on additional words, you’ll need to pay for a monthly subscription.
Quetext AI was first launched as a plagiarism checker, using its plagiarism tool to help content creators avoid and identify plagiarism. However, since the rise of AI content generation, Quetext now also offers AI detection.
When used sparingly, AI tools can benefit content creation by streamlining research and content ideation. However, it’s important to maintain transparency with your audience and review AI content closely for AI hallucinations (factual errors).
