Smodin AI Detector Review — Does It Work?
As part of our AI content detector review series, we're testing Smodin's AI content detection tool to see if it can effectively identify AI-generated content.
Trying to find an AI content detection tool that works for several AI writing tools is tricky.
While many claim to offer users near-perfect results, some struggle to keep that promise.
So, in our AI detector review series, we wanted to make sure that you had insight into which ones to trust and which need further research before becoming a go-to AI content detector.
Here, we’ll discuss the following:
Smodin claims to be a 'Highly Accurate Multi-lingual AI Content Detection' tool, allowing users to identify any AI-generated text in academic writing or marketing content.
The AI tool started as a plagiarism checker before focusing on AI writing detection after the mainstream adoption of tools like ChatGPT.
With AI becoming prominent across industries, users are searching for the best AI content detectors for clarity and transparency, which is what Smodin claims to provide.
Academics are keen to ensure that they have an AI grading tool available to protect academic integrity.
Like other AI content detection tools, Smodin allows you to paste content directly into the detector. The detector then provides a percentage score based on the likelihood that AI content is present.
To effectively review Smodin's AI content detection tool, we tested it with a range of AI-generated text styles.
Step 1: First, we split the test into three forms of content, each one generated by ChatGPT, and then copied word for word into Smodin's content detector.
Step 2: For clarity, we also ran the exact ChatGPT copy into Originality's AI content detector to see how our software compared to Smodin.
Step 3: The three types of content we tested were blog posts, research papers, and case studies, as these are all popular uses for creating AI content.

Initial results suggest that Smodin struggles when it comes to detecting AI content. In contrast to the Originality.ai detector, which correctly identified all three samples as AI-generated, Smodin’s results identified the content as human-written (even though it was copied and pasted directly from ChatGPT).
The test deliberately provided ChatGPT with detailed prompts on a tech-heavy subject to ensure the content was high-quality to challenge both tools. However, despite the exceptional performance of Originality.ai, Smodin’s tool was unable to detect the content as AI-generated.
Note: Due to the small sample size, further testing is required to determine the overall accuracy of Smodin’s AI detection tool.
